Here is a list of common problems we see. Your kids toys with soft rubber tires left long enough will meld into the finish of many types of furniture. A book with a faux leather cover will do the same.
Many people use plug in air fresheners. If they have some liquid scent still in them and you set them down to refill them they will leak. The scent is an alcohol based product that will chew up many finishes. Put them down on something safe.
We see so many problems with perfume and cologne. If you place them in the bathroom you usually will never have a problem. If you like them on the dresser put down a towel or something that can protect the finish in case of a spill.
Most of these repairs are easily repaired using the Exact Match Wood Repair system. Stay tuned for more Exact Match Quick Tips.

I have been an audiophile for many years and love to buy vintage electronics. The other day I spotted a real find. This was a black power amp that usually sells for around $600.00. This particular amp had some scratches on the face but sonically worked perfectly. I bought the amp for $280.00 and is now working in my current system. I saved $320.00 on this amp and could not be happier. The scratches I touched up with the Exact Match Wood Touchup system and are now not visible until you get right up the the amp. From three feet away you cant see a flaw. If you have component scratches the Exact Match system will work great to hide them. Thanks for reading the Exact Match Quick Tip.

Many people have attempted to use a fill stick for one type of damage or another with varying results. I will try to give you the simplest and best way to achieve the best quality repair possible.
There are a few types or repairs that a fill stick is appropriate for. Small nicks and scratches and edge dents are the best uses for fill sticks.
#1 Edges with nicks or dings are pretty easy to repair. First select the closest color Exact Match Fill Stick. Next grip it firmly and rub it briskly back and forth on the dent. The key here is to create enough friction to allow the stick to fill the dent. Another important thing to remember is to overlap the dent evenly as you go back and forth. Finally you’ll need to remember where the dent was and it’s approximate size for the next step to work. Wipe off the excess fill stick that you applied and leave only the filled in dent or nick. If needed you can take your finger and smooth it out a bit.
The same basic techniques apply to repairing scratches. Pick the stick. Rub back and forth. Wipe off the excess. Smooth the finish and lastly if you don’t have an exact color match which is unlikely, use the Exact Match Wood Repair system color cards.
Pick a color card, activate the stain and touch it up. Apply to the filled in area with the exact color required and your repair can disappear from sight. The stain off of the Exact Match color card will stick to the filled in area.

Not since 1978 has lead based paint been used in home construction but many pieces of painted furniture still exist with lead based paint on them. Unless you are planning on refinishing the piece it will generally be safe for adults. If a young child will be using it definitely refinish the piece so that no lead could harm a child.
Testing to determine if lead is present is easily accomplished. Most hardware stores have a lead test kit that runs about $10.00. You break a glass tube that is covered in paper and has a wiping fiber inside the tube. Wipe the surface to be tested and if it turns color you have lead. This is highly recommend prior to refinishing a piece.
Lead is dangerous when consumed such as eaten or breathed in such as if you were sanding on a piece and inhaled the dust created.
The EPA publishes a guide that is free and is available at most paint stores. This guide will give you some good information on lead and it’s dangers.

The problem: If your wood furniture is too close to a heat register it can cause the piece to dry out. If your wood furniture is exposed to direct sunlight it can fade the stain and dry out the piece. The solution is obvious and thus try to keep your furniture out of direct sunlight and away from registers whenever possible. The heat and cold cycles can also cause warping problems especially on newer Asian made furniture. Keep your wood well oiled with a high quality polish such as Exact Match Luster Restore. This will also create a UV barrier to further preserve your piece. Thanks for reading the Exact Match Quick Tip
If you have performed a wood scratch repair and the repair stands out. Maybe it is because the grain is now missing from the repaired areas. Replacing the grain could help hide the repair and keep the repair out of sight.
On the back of the Exact Match color cards is a graining card. It is designed to replace the grain on all types of wood. It’s a translucent stain that will fool the eye into believing that the grain is there. Simply activate the card and replicate the grain with the brush.
A brush technique that works very well for graining is to kind of bounce the bristles of the brush as you go across the repair. It makes for an uneven application and thus a natural look. Thanks for reading the Exact Match Quick Tip
In the furniture and wood floor repair industry there is a rule of thumb used. After you perform a repair and it looks good from three feet away, then you are done. Basically a repair is just that and will never be exactly like the original finish. The Exact Match Wood Touch Up system will provide an excellent repair and yes most of the time from three feet away you won’t see the repair. On a wood floor repair you have a big plus in that generally you are on your feet walking on it and so your repairs are far enough away that you never see them. We are currently working on an upgraded version of our wood floor repair kit. This system will allow an amateur to perform a wood floor repair that will hold up to many years of use. We will be introducing this in the next month or so and are really excited about the launch. Save your money and do it yourself. Thanks for reading your Exact Match quick tip.
