INSTRUCTIONS FOR A LIGHT SCRATCH
#1 Fan out the EXACT MATCH COLOR CARDS and hold up the card to the problem area to be repaired. Pick the color card that most closely matches the wood.
More than one card may be needed. See Illustration #1

#2 Place the color card on a paper plate or a section of newspaper. Shake the activator solution.  Put three to five drops of activator solution in the center of the card using the dropper. Note: The dropper tip requires a hole be put into the end with a straight pin. Swirl the brush in a circular motion to fully mix the stain on the card. If more activator is needed simply a few more drops on the card. See Illustration #2 & 3

#3 Just like painting any surface, stroke with the grain. Use the minimum amount of colorant possible to see if your color selection is correct. If the color is incorrect, allow to dry for three minutes and reapply with a different color card. For hard to match colors, blending two or more colors may be necessary. Simply blend two colors on the corner of a card corner out on the color card to check color blends. Most of the time this is not necessary.  Do not wipe it off when it is still wet. This could damage the finish being repaired. See illustration #4

STEP BACK: If you are satisfied with the repair. Stop. You are finished. If you need to improve the appearance go back to step #1 and use a different color card.

NOTE: If the color applied is close and needs to be lighter or darker, more red or more yellow tints should be used. Select a tint card at the back of the color card deck which can lighten or darken the repair. If there is a substantial difference in the color selected, choose another color card and start back with step #1.

Graining the repair:
Many woods will have some dark grain running through the repair. If dark grain is present and needs to be replaced use the graining card to finish the repair by graining in where the old grain used to be. Simply activate the graining card and touch up where the grain was before. The graining card can also be used to tint repairs because it is translucent and works really well to tint repairs that are off color by a shade. This card is marked with the word "Graining"on the back of the card.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR A DEEP SCRATCH
#1 Select the fill stick that most closely matches the color of the wood to be repaired. Rub the fill stick back and forth perpendicular to the scratch. Rub quickly to create heat. The fill sticks react with friction which creates heat. Wipe off the excess fill stick material with a soft cloth. Make sure you wipe only the excess material off and keep the cloth out of the filled area. On corner nicks, rub the fill stick back and forth until the shape of the edge can be seen on the end of the fill stick and the shape of the nick is filled in. Once the scratch is successfully filled wipe off the excess and go to step #1 and proceed with coloring the repair if required.
