I just wrote a piece on repairing missing color on leather seats in your car and this is an addition to the last posting.
The color on car seats can be easily replaced where it simply comes off from getting in and out of your car. There is one other commonly seen problem if you haul things in your car such as boards, skis and anything that can rub on the seat. If the item is rough enough it can remove the finish on the leather by simply rubbing back and forth on it as you drive.
The technique for repairing this is similar to replacing the missing color with the exception of the brush technique. Instead of finding the Exact Match color card, activating the stain and stroking it on you would simply use a dabbing, smashing or stippling technique on the repair. Because this surface can be rough it is necessary to smash or dab the brush into the leather fibers in order to get the stain into the repair. On these types of repairs it may be necessary to apply more than one coat to get full coverage. Once dry apply the leather preservative of your liking.
Thanks for reading the Exact Match Quick Tip of the day. If you’ve got a scratch, fix it with Exact Match.
